On behalf of a fast-growing and innovative client in the AI space, we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their team.

Location: Hybrid in Malta (a couple of days per week in the office)
Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise backend systems
• Build and maintain APIs for web and mobile clients
• Lead integration of AI/ML workflows into the platform
• Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) with a focus on performance and scalability
• Ensure code quality, testing, and continuous integration
• Work closely with the founders and contribute to engineering culture

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend development (Python preferred; FastAPI a plus)
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, and REST APIs
• Familiarity with asynchronous I/O and distributed systems
• Solid cloud experience (AWS, GCP)
• Good understanding of backend security best practices
• Interest in AI/ML integration
• Independent, proactive, and comfortable in a startup environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
