We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Risk Management Lead to oversee and strengthen our client's risk management function across both retail and online betting operations.

This role will be responsible for identifying, structuring, and prioritizing operational and trading risks, with a particular focus on sports betting exposure, margin optimization, and mobile money payment ecosystems.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in sportsbook risk management, combined with a solid understanding of African payment landscapes and mobile money systems. This is a strategic leadership position with direct impact on profitability, operational stability, and business growth.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the overall risk management strategy across sports betting and online gambling operations

• Monitor, analyze, and control sportsbook exposure, ensuring balanced books and optimized margins

• Develop and implement risk frameworks, policies, and procedures to mitigate financial and operational risks

• Continuously monitor betting patterns, customer behavior, and market movements to identify potential risks and opportunities

• Collaborate closely with trading, product, and operations teams to improve margin performance and risk controls

• Oversee risk related to payment methods, with particular attention to mobile money platforms and regional payment flows

• Identify fraud risks, bonus abuse, arbitrage betting, and other threats, and implement preventive measures

• Produce regular risk and performance reports for senior leadership, with clear recommendations

• Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements across operating markets

• Support business expansion by advising on risk implications in new markets, products, or payment integrations

Requirements:

• Proven experience in risk management within sports betting, online gambling, or sportsbook trading environments

• Strong understanding of sportsbook operations, odds, exposure management, and margin optimization

• Experience working with or managing risk in African markets is highly desirable

• Good knowledge of mobile money systems (e.g., M-Pesa, Airtel Money, MTN Mobile Money, etc.) and associated risks

• Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions

• Experience with risk monitoring tools, trading platforms, or betting management systems

• Ability to prioritize, structure, and manage multiple risk areas simultaneously

• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams

• High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail

• Background in fraud prevention, payments risk, or financial risk management
